Why Discount Christianity Because It Gives Purpose To Life?

I have a friend who is not religious.  He grew up in a Lutheran church most of his life, but has seemingly decided that all religion is a man-made attempt to make sense of life.

We all seem to have an innate desire to make sense of life, and to find purpose.  The entire world adheres to some kind of religion.  But why then use this as an excuse to throw all religion in the trash?

My friend and I have had innumerable conversations about God, life, and other religions.  If I give a Christian viewpoint on something, I will sometimes receive back a comment such as, “see, Christianity seems to have an answer for everything”, discounting Christianity for that reason.  I find this contradictory the more I think about it because he seems to have some philosophical answer for everything we ever talk about.  Shall I then discount anything he ever says because of that?

I would be utterly hopeless with no purpose in life.  I embrace the fact that Christianity makes sense of my existence.

What I’ve found is that people whose beliefs or philosophy of life come with inherent contradictions, ie. their beliefs don’t provide them with necessary answers, those people tend to live by the creed, “Because I haven’t been able to discover Truth, therefore no one is able to discover Truth.” These are almost to a person, people who have rejected Jesus as the Way, the Truth and the Life. Of course, in the absence of His Truth there really isn’t any Truth to be found.

Good insight makarios. Everyone has it in themselves to want to know Truth, however, the one that rejects Jesus pretty much punches their own face in the search for Truth.
