Listening to the Holy Spirit - Part 2

Yesterday, after I had written the post from yesterday, I realized something.  It isn’t just believers who think about people or things seemingly out of the blue.  I think everyone does that.  So, to say that it is the Holy Spirit prompting the thoughts - does that work?  Would we not have to say then that it is the Holy Spirit bringing about thoughts in a non-believer?

So, I am trying to find out what the Holy Spirit’s work is in our thoughts, and how it is different between believers and non-believers.  I don’t have time to wrestle with it in the post here now - but before I write anymore, do any of you have any thoughts on this?  Post a comment if you do.  I would love some dialog on the subject.

I defintitely believe that the Holy Spirit pursues non believers in a similar way that he prompts believers. Jesus spoke to non believers as well as his own followers while he was here in the flesh. If the Holy Spirit “is” Jesus’ replacement and the Trinitarian representative of the Godhead here on earth, since God is always consisten with himself, would he still not speak to non-believers as he did while he was here? Clearly the individual’s ability to discern truth is significantly limited, but I would hope that the messages are being presented to them. I have had people call me out of the blue who are not sincere followers of Jesus Christ and comment that for some reason, I was a name that kept popping into their mind and they needed to call me. More times than not, their issue was a spiritual issue that needed a Biblical truth illuminated in their life. I wish I could say that I was always able to get them to commit to Christ, but I was at least able to tell them that I could see that God was working on them and they should recognize the significance of that fact. (as always, please excuse typos)
